Sayas for both traditional and Western style knifes are carefully crafted out of hinoki wood (Japanese Magnolia). Hinoki wood is soft, moisture resistant, and contains no resins that might corrode or discolor steel- even carbon. For our saya covers, we use resilient hinoki wood grown in northern Japan, where the cold climate encourages the growth of densely grained wood that will not warp.
