Item #: DNA-121-09
Size: 10.63"Dia. x 8"H - 96oz

This uniquely designed IGA-yaki donabe smoker allows you to make the professional quality smoked dishes with the easy preparations at home. - As seen on Food Network Magazine, April 2013

The town of Iga was once on the bed of Lake Biwa during the pre-historic period. Iga clay is a very special clay that has been utilized by the Iga town in pottery for centuries. It consists of higher content of carbonated organisms, which makes Iga-style pottery more porous than the average earthenware. The clay from this region naturally has a higher level of heat-resistance, and when cooked the Iga style donabe retains the heat fully before fulling cooking or smoking the ingredients inside.

Preparation
  • Please completely dry the pot before use. When you first fill the pot with water, you may notice that water is seeping through the pot. Japanese Earthenware is made this way to avoid cracking while heating. To eliminate this problem, please follow the instructions below:

    1. Cook porridge or heat water mixed with cornstarch in the pot until it boils.
    2. Leave the porridge or water with water in the pot and allow it to cool completely for 1 - 2 hours.
    3. Remove the contents.
    4. Allow the earthenware to air dry overnight.
    5. Gently and quickly wash.
    6. Ready to use!
    7. Please note that this only needs to be done once.

Care

Dishwasher safe
Microwave Safe
Oven Safe
Gas Stove Top Safe

Caution

  • The earthenware will absorb the flavors of the first meal it is cooks. Please be sure to cook starchy rice or a water and cornstarch mixture to fill the porous earthenware.
  • Never leave food in the earthenware overnight or for long periods of time.
  • Never leave detergents in the earthenware. Wash the earthenware quickly after use and allow it to air dry.
  • Do not heat the pot while empty.
  • Do not deep fry.
  • We recommend using a tawashi brush.
  • Do not use over electric stove tops.
  • Please properly dry the outside of the pot before setting on the stove to avoid damage.
