Bizen-yaki is a type of Japanese pottery that is renowned for its iron-like hardness and distinctive earthy colors. Bizen is Japan’s oldest pottery making technique and as such, bizen pottery is made of clay that is high in iron content and other organic matters. Because bizen is made of natural materials, the clay is unreceptive to glazing and the finish is a result of slow firing over a long period of time. This allows for a variety of different results in firing, as the ash in the kiln and the rice straw wrapped around the ceramic will create their own markings, making each piece unique and different from the next.
This Bizen tea cup is elegantly crafted in the bizen-yaki style and is a timeless classic. The style is traditional, but the aesthetic of this cup is very modern and chic. This cup complements the TEP-210 - Black Bizen Tea Pot w/strainer beautifully.
